I BUY SAUSAGE So, my old trusty work phone died on me last week. It wasn’t anything special as far as phones go - It had no builtin camera, no MP3/WAV ringtone capabilities, or anything even remotely remarkable about it. The best thing it had was Bluetooth support, so I could synchronize my contacts on my MacBook to it. I never really felt compelled to customize it, with the exception of using “Winter Fireworks” from the Kanon OST for its ringtone. However, the thing was that picky about MIDI formats, that it gave me the shits, and made me feel less compelled to customize it further.

Then I got my new phone - a Nokia 6233. It has some pretty cool features, a nice resolution screen, Bluetooth support for my Mac (although I had to hack the support into iSync myself), and a whole range of pretty cool customization features - including MP3 & WAV Ringtone support.

So from there, I got the idea to make a theme of my favourite of this season - Lucky Star. Inbetween playing Halo 3 this weekend, I fiddled a bit with Nokia’s Series 40 Theme Studio, and with thanks to ADTRW’s Lucky Star thread (and Kagemusha’s legendary animated GIF skills), I threw a little something together. It’s nowhere near complete, but it’s certainly ready to produce rolleyes and looks of dismay and disgust amongst your peers. So without further ado, here it is:

It’s a pretty big file, as you can see - and most of it is just the TV sized ringtone. But it’s not just an MP3 and image thrown together, this sucker has the following:

  • Startup, screensaver, and shutdown animations (thanks Kagemusha!)
  • Startup sound (”Ja, Hajimarumasu yo!”)
  • Idle background image (as above)
  • Menu background image (attempt to make it useable as a theme)
  • MP3 Ringtone (Motteke! Sailor Fuku - TV Sized version)
  • My generic message tone (”Ecchi nano wa ikenai to omoimasu!” - Mahorosan)

Unfortunately, as it’s a work in progress, I’ve either yet to complete, or lack the skill to do the following things:

  • Better font colourization/integration with the UI
  • More custom backgrounds
  • Calendar backdrops (for every month if possible)
  • Custom icons/highlights for builtin functions/apps
  • Various other UI elements
  • A smaller, more cutdown ringtone (3.5MB WTF)
  • Shutdown sound (I can rip out suggested sounds from the anime)
  • Calendar alert tone (As above)
  • More suitable message/IM tones (As above the above)
  • Other cool stuff

So.. this is where you guys come in. Because everything I do on my site is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, that means you’re free to hack and slash away at this and make something better, provided you give me credit, and allow other people the same freedoms. Furthermore, if you assist me in my endevours, I’ll gladly itemize and credit everything you do in future versions.

My goal is to eventually turn this into a proper theme that people can actually use, which is not something a lot of other so-called themes can boast. However, I also realise that I lack the skills and motivation to give it the proper treatment it deserves. I do have a pretty good eye for quality, and making things mesh together, so if people are willing to lend me a hand, I know I can make this into something awesome.

So howabout it? :3:

    This makes me jealous that I’m still using a Nokia 6101 ;_;

This file is so big! I can’t seem to load it on my phone. Says I don’t have enough memory. Have around 2MB of internal phone memory free. How much more do I need?

It’s a 4MB file, so you’re going to need some kind of memory stick installed in the sucker.

Again, if I had time to work on this, I’d make it much more compact. :(

Well, I removed the ringtone and I was able to load it. Just downloaded a seperate file and manualy set it in as the ringtone. However, I cant seem to make the startup and message alert tones to work.

Well the theme’s ok, but most of the features don’t work. For example the startup gif won’t show up. Anyway, nice one.

Hello and welcome to Respect Sakura, yet another shitty blog under the premise of being an animu blog, when it's really just about Jaymz's tech leanings, spending habits and crack-inspired ramblings on topics noone cares about. Oh, and that other guy posts stuff sometimes, too.

Please be warned that this site may contain strong language, adult themes, and sexual discussion about characters that may appear underage but are really over 18, and anything that may look or sound illegal really isn't, you just imagined it because your mind is sick and twisted, and it ain't my fault so don't you dare blame that shit on me son.
