Reviews & Shit
Posted by Jaymz, January 7th, 2008 in Anime, Everything/Nothing, Respect Sakura, Slice of LifeDespite being an anime themed site, there’s been quite a lack of any real anime content on here lately. In fact, there’s only been a grand total of one anime series review - and this was basically just the first episode.
Of course, this is all due to me being a procrastinating, lazy little prick. That said, I figured that while I’m getting you all to peruse my list of crap and tell me what needs to go to the great Recycle Bin in the sky, you could also tell me what to actually watch, and review it here on this very website.
So before we get started, here’s the ground rules:
- It has to be on my list.
If I don’t have it, I can’t watch it, and I can’t review it. - Complete series are fine, but only if it’s manageable
If it’s something I have to marathon over this weekend, then for the love of God, no 50+ episode monstrosities. - Plan-to-watch or On hold will generate the best responses.
I could do reviews on shit I’ve already seen, but I’m looking more for something that’s fresh. It’s also more interesting for me and you, if it’s something I haven’t touched yet. - If you make me watch something I’ve dropped, you better have a damn good reason.
Self explanatory. There are reasons why I drop shit, ladies and gentlemen. - I am not reviewing anything on this list.
Hint: All of these shows have a common tag. Can you guess what it is? - I am adamant about my own opinion.
If you pick a favourite series of yours and I end up hating it, I reserve the right to say whatever I choose to in regards to it, and you can reserve the right to go fuck yourself if you disagree.
So there we have it. Pick a show from the list that meets the criteria above, and I’ll spend this weekend watching it and preparing a review on Monday, next week. I’ve got ratings on the on hold stuff, but that’s a rating of what I think of the show so far. Depending on how good (or bad) the show is, my opinion may change. The plan-to-watch stuff is, of course, unrated because I haven’t seen it, and can’t really formulate an opinion on it beyond pure speculation.
In a nutshell: Pick a show, I’ll watch it, and post the outcome on this here site on Monday. Pretty simple, right?

Hello and welcome to Respect Sakura, yet another shitty blog under the premise of being an animu blog, when it's really just about Jaymz's tech leanings, spending habits and crack-inspired ramblings on topics noone cares about. Oh, and that other guy posts stuff sometimes, too.
Please be warned that this site may contain strong language, adult themes, and sexual discussion about characters that may appear underage but are really over 18, and anything that may look or sound illegal really isn't, you just imagined it because your mind is sick and twisted, and it ain't my fault so don't you dare blame that shit on me son.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann must get a review, or Kamina will haunt your dreams!
Things that you need to finish:
- Aria (because it is awesome)
- Claymore (so that you too can experience the creeping horror that results from the show getting better and better then completely fucking it up, much like a train steaming faster and faster while on fire and being chased by ninjas, then suddenly derailing and smashing through an orphanage and coming to rest in an abortion clinic)
- Marimite OAVs. (Why have you not finished these?)
- Saiunkoku Monogatari (it was awesome and you’ve only got four eps to go)
- Simoun (you stopped watching right when it got awesome :( )
Remove Black Cat from your plan-to-watch list. Shit flavoured ass biscuits is an understatment. Ditto Avenger, one of the most dreadfully dull shows ever produced (it makes Noir look fast-paced).
WHY HAVE YOU NOT YET SEEN ANY OF STRATOS 4?
Shows I gave up on yet still curious about, maybe you could give me a reason to revisit, or prove I am right:
-Speed Grapher (animation quality went from good to unpalatable, but interesting perverted story)
-Le Chevalier D’Eon (Production I.G… I put my trust in you, pushed as far as I can go… and this is the shit you fling at me? Same goes for Blood , now come to think of it)
-Zegapain (an anime based on a game, how can it be anything other than generic?)
-Claymore (already reading the manga, so what’s the point)
My all time favorites that I never finished myself. You think you are lazy? try to beat that. These are shows I would give 10/10 anytime, maybe you could give them a shot.
-Mushishi (such an emotionally exhausting show for me, really need to get in the zone and marathon it in the future)
-Kino’s Journey (I know it has such depth and symbolism to the stories and all…)
On a side note, wow you really hate Basilisk huh? They even made a feature length live action film on that so it has quite a following. Stories aside, you didn’t even like the ninja actions? They were weird as hell.
I wanted to like Basilisk. I really did. Ninjas are pretty cool, after all.. but, it just went from pretty cool, to bland, to downright mediocre in the span of about 4 episodes. I just couldn’t watch it anymore.
In response to popularity - I hear Dragon Ball Z and Naruto is pretty popular as well, but I’d sooner jam forks into my eyes before even contemplating putting myself through that crap.
Hrm lets see here.
Da Crapo you can just let drop all I remember is Nemu going “oh nii-sama I wanna have hot unprotected illegal sex with you!” and she pretty much gets her wish near the end of the series which why I just stopped watching it.
You can of course drop season 2 of Da Crapo before it eats away at your brain
Same with Death Note, the ending of it is basically one giant fucking cop out. They didn’t know what the hell to do so they made a really crappy ending for it.
I’’s Pure is nothing more then a retelling of the manga, so I had a hard time watching it as it was all the same crap all over again.
Noein - Mou Hitori no Kimi e - this here is actually a very well done series, I highly suggest finishing it before I fly the hell down there and shove a fork in your skull. The interesting part is all the science stuff is actually theoretically possible.
Yakitate!! Japan - is one of those few shows that is amazingly fun to watch despite it’s content. I had lots of fun watching people bake bread, which in itself was amazing.
Anyways that’s my 2 cents
You cannot deny me my non-blood-related-sister action, no matter the cost to my sanity, mental health, or faith in humanity.
Also, thanks for spoiling it, ass-hat! I was going to finish it, one day!
Haha, anime of Dragon Ball and Naruto both started out very good because the source material were good, then the anime caught up with the manga and that’s that. This scenerio happens so
often when they try to adapt an ongoing manga into an anime, yet they just seem to not learn anything from history and repeat the same mistake over and over. But the Naruto manga is awesome and it’s still going strong. Give it a try.
I was going to suggest Noein too, but I thought I saw it awhile ago all dubbed on Cartoon network adult swim, so people who are interested in it probably saw it already. While it’s pretty good (especially the art and animation style), the way they approach multiverse and quantum physics ideas is way to literal and contrived that it’s definitely not theoretically possible LOL.
PS. Yakitate Japan is the shit, I am constantly amazed at how they manage to make the most mundane thing entertaining.
Okay… just to recap on a few things.
Right off the bat, I am not planning to pick up on Yakikate Japan, because somewhere around the midpoint of the show, it just gets as boring as fuck. I enjoyed the manga, and I do like the show, but it’s also one of those 50 episode monstrosities I said I wasn’t going to do.
So.. we have two possible suggestions for Claymore, and two possible suggestions for Noein. I have to say that I’m not really that big on fantasy in regards to Claymore, and Noein made my head hurt with the first episode.
So.. Noein or Claymore? Or something else?
To make things trickier, I just finished getting all of Dennou Coil, and I did enjoy Lain, so unless a clear winner of the two is chosen, then I’m going to pull out the Jaymz clause and just marathon Dennou Coil anyway.
Dennou Coil is superior to both Noein and Claymore IMO (as if you can’t tell by my name lol). Didn’t see it in your list, otherwise I’d recommend it wholeheartedly. Reality augmentation technologies is going to enter and affect our day to day lives in a big bad way in the near future and I suspect some of the stuff they show in the show are going to be completely feasible in the next 50 years.
“In response to popularity - I hear Dragon Ball Z and Naruto is pretty popular as well, but I’d sooner jam forks into my eyes before even contemplating putting myself through that crap.”
I feel the same way about Gurren Lagann.
Anyway, Claymore gets another vote from me here. I’ve only watched up to ep 16 or 17 in parts, and although Negs is exaggerating, it does get a bit wierd in parts.
You should probably finish watching Hidamari Sketch too - it’s a little slow, but a good series anyway. And Tsukuyomi ~Moon Phase~ - I’ve always meant to get around to finishing myself.
