About
Due to my thinly veiled attempts to transmute this site from a personal dumping ground of shit, into some form of community, I’m going to have to take the initial step of covering my ass and laying down the groundwork of what you can or cannot do on this website. Specifically, across the entire site, and on the forums.
Sitewide Rules
- No Spam
Enforcement of this rule is mostly automated. In the event that your post gets caught by the spambots (ie, if your post has more than one URL linking to the outside world), it’ll get thrown in the moderation queue. If you post something, and don’t see it afterwards, just e-mail me. - Stay on topic
Try not to veer things too far off from whatever the original post or topic is about. For the forums, try not to post things outside of the category you’re posting in (ie, games in general or whatever). - No Illegal Shit
Basically, no links to things like warez, copyrighted mp3’s, torrents, or whatever. Fansub discussion is cool, but we should all know where to find it, folks. Furthermore, no posting of other people’s private information, images of illegal things, threats, or anything else that violates US (where the server is) or Australian (where I am) laws. - No Hawking
For those not used to colourful Australian slang, this essentially means don’t try to sell shit, or link to something that profits you. Kind of fits in with the no spam rule above, but I’ll clarify on this a bit more. If you write something on the forums, and provide a link to your blog, say, which expands on what you wrote - that’s cool. If you post for the pure sake of promoting something, or getting people to just visit your site for no reason other than to generate hits, that’s not cool. - No Harrassment
Internet tough guys, internet detectives, stalkers, and people who like to post pictures of lolcats in every post aren’t welcome. For more detail, see the No Illegal Shit rule.
Forum Rules
- Thread Necromancy is Frowned Upon
Don’t dig up a six month old thread, if all you’re going to post is “Me too”. If you bump an old-ass thread, please make sure your post contributes to the discussion. - Duplicate Threads are Frowned Upon
On the flipside, we don’t need 20 Dragonball Z threads, when one will suffice. There’s a fine balance between duplicate threads, and thread necromancy, and it differs within each forum category. - Read. Comprehend. Post.
Otherwise translated as “lurk more”. Get a feel for the community, before leaping in headfirst. If you can’t restrain yourself, make your initial post in IDYF. - Introductory Threads go to IDYF
Self explanatory. Don’t post a “Hay guys whats goin on in this forum” posting anywhere but the “Introduce Yourself” category. It’s what it’s for. - No Fanboys: Keep the x wars to a bare minimum
We don’t need a Windows vs OS X rant every goddamn week, nor do we care about the latest shenanigans in the console wars. Pick whatever you like, and keep it to yourself.
Further Clarification
One final global rule: Don’t be a dickwad. If you think of some clever, inventive way to get around a rule, then I’ll make a rule solely for you. Because I’m a selfish prick, and this is essentially my site, I’m free to do whatever the hell I like with it, and you’re free to go elsewhere if you disagree.
